Giving is Awesome…Nominate a deserving family for a portrait session in Chattanooga!

******UPDATE: A family has finally been chosen for this session! More details and photos coming after our session in March******
Recently I heard about a photographer, Kristen Kalp, who came up with the idea of photographers giving away sessions to deserving families….I am sure she is overwhelmed with the response! With her idea, Giving is Awesome, over $550,624 worth of photographic artwork has been given away, amazing! Well I am jumping on this bandwagon, I have to….I MUST….my heart tells me to.
Now come on my friends and family, you have to help. As you read this now, I am sure you already have a family in mind. You know that this little pick me up session will do the trick in lifting their spirits and kicking off 2009 with a great attitude. If you know someone that has experienced adversity in their life, I want to hear their story told by you!
Here’s the rules (they are simple):
  • You cannot nominate yourself.
  • The nominee must be those due to their struggles cannot possibly spend the extra money on photography services at this point in time.
  • The nominee must reside within 100 miles of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • I need the truth and nothing but the truth! I want the whole story. Please email me directly at meghan@soliphotography.com with who you are, who you are nominating, why you are nominating them and complete contact information for you both.

That’s it! After I receive all the stories I will post the chosen family on this blog.

Charlie+Bettye Jane=Amazing Winter Wedding in Natchez, Mississippi

It just so happens that one of my very best girlfriends from high school happens to be a photographer as well. The amazing and talented Amanda Shea asked me a few weeks ago to run down to Natchez, Mississippi to photograph a wedding with her….how could I say no! I knew Bettye from high school too and was thrilled to see her again and meet her super sweet and cute fiance Charlie. Charlie is actually from Halls, Tennessee, about an hour north of Memphis. After they return from their honeymoon they will live not to far from Chattanooga, they will be in Birmingham, Alabama! Charlie and Bettye, it was truely a pleasure to see you together and in love…..I saw it in your eyes, how much you cared for each other and that’s a great thing to see! I wish you the best as you begin your new life together and let me know if you ever roll through Chattanooga!

PS: It was great to see all of you, my old friends! Also, to the Roberts and Carby families, thank you so much for your hospitality, it was a pleasure meeting all of you.

Vendors:

Reception locale: The Carby’s home

Catering: Mounmouth Plantation

Flowers: Moreton’s Flowerland

Band: Almost Famous (Seriously the coolest band ever! If you want to have the best reception party in town book this band! Not only are they super nice but they are professional and have a great set up. They do play some great wedding favorites, but not the typical same old stuff you hear at every single wedding reception….check them out!

There will be many, MANY more from Amanda, but to view your slideshow click HERE for my take on the day (:

Here are just a few highlights:

Bettye was an absolutely regal bride….

Bettye checking out her cute self!

Bettye’s mom catching a video of Bettye….

Charlie and Bettye are effortlessly beautiful, don’t you think?!

I very much enjoyed watching all the support given to Bettye by her bridesmaids….they were up for anything, even being out in the cold in little dresses for me and Amanda!

I am going to go ahead and give these wedding reception guests 1st place in the most awesome dancing ever!

Catching these sweet moments makes my job worthwhile (:

I think they were congratulating each other on throwing a great party….

Charlie and Bettye: Thanks for having us at your fabulous wedding, we had a blast….and congratulations!

Many Moods of Christmas with the Tabernacle Orchestra

This past Sunday I had the privilege of photographing the Tabernacle Orchestra at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Chattanooga while they practiced for the last show. One word….AMAZING! Just to get to hear the songs for the hour that I was there was a treat in itself. I have heard orchestras and choirs before but I have never had the chance to get up close and personal with a lens, it was great! From the flutes, to the oboes, violin and drums…I was truly moved.

Thanks to John Feezell, worship leader for Tabernacle, who I hear typically has a photographer there for his loyal musicians! I hope all of you enjoy these photographs as much as I loved hearing you play.
