Welcome to the world baby L

Photographing in my client’s homes is such an honor. Over the years I have often thought of creating a studio, and although that is not completely off the table, I absolutely love the intimacy photographing in-home provides. For this session, throw in the fact that this sweet family wanted a lifestyle newborn session, what a bonus!

Some clients get nervous shooting in their home. Will it be clean enough, where will she shoot, what if I don’t have the right space?! I wish all parents could see that most homes, especially during the newborn phase are not kept to perfection. I have photographed newborns in small apartments with just one window for light, I will always find a way! I provide a Newborn Prep Guide to get you ready for your session and it addresses all the worries that most parents have leading up to their in-home newborn session. We also schedule a time for a complimentary consultation prior to your baby being born to iron out the details.

Reach out a couple of months before your baby is born and let’s chat about your newborn session. I am flexible with scheduling and love to include siblings and grandparents during a portion of the session as well. Contact me to get the party started!

Three things you might not know about me….I am the oldest of five children, my bachelor’s degree is not in any kind of art it’s actually in marketing and I love to watercolor paint! When I am not photographing babies, pregnant mommas, or families you can find me chasing around my 2.5 year old son, Sully, attending my 17 year old daughter Mady’s regatta or attending a concert with my husband, David. I love to travel, tend to my many plants and recently fuss over our vegetable garden! Special shout out to the Lipstick Plant featured in this photo, it’s my favorite plant inside at the moment and the perfect photo backdrop.

My grandmother, Hammaw (she’s 92!) is a watercolor artist. She taught me how to paint in my teens, but that skill escaped me until adulthood. Last year I picked it up again and it’s been the most calming and inspirational activity. It’s interesting when you create something you begin to look at the world a little differently. When I see trees now I study the shadow, and then I’ll think about the leaf color and how I would make that specific color with the little knowledge of color theory that I have. You don’t necessarily have to be great at it, and making something with your own two hands just feels good. It feel real. It feels human. Sometimes I will sit down to paint thinking twenty minutes have gone by and it’s been two whole hours! I do not keep many of my paintings, family and friends seem to like them so I gift anything that looks somewhat decent. Lately I have been making bookmarks, so if you’re a client and get a photo in the mail from me and I pop one in, you will know it was made with love!

The family photos are from the fall 2024 taken by the amazing Annette Heck.

K+M Motherhood Session in Chickamauga Georgia

A Perfect Spring Day at Creekside Flower Farm: A Mother-Daughter Photography Session Among Ranunculus Blooms near Chattanooga, Tennessee

Creekside Flower Farm in Chickamauga, Georgia, was pure magic for this mother-daughter session. One reason it’s so neat to be a family and baby photographer in Chattanooga is how close we are to beautiful places like Creekside. Their ranunculus field were in full bloom, with soft yellows, creamy whites, and pops of coral creating the perfect backdrop. The stems and leaves of the ranunculus added a dreamy charm to the photos. I loved this mom and baby’s sweet outfits, perfect for a spring time photoshoot. I have photographed for this momma starting with her wedding years ago. Every glance and giggle between her and her daughter is so precious, and capturing those sweet moments with them always seems effortless.

As the sun dipped lower, it cast the perfect light on these two. Most of the unplanned moments make the best photographs and you can see that in these images. Creekside Flower Farm didn’t just offer a stunning location; it gave us a chance to slow down and just smell the flowers. Perhaps we will make it back to this flower farm with two babies, this momma is welcoming a girl in September this year! Although I love a full family session, there’s something special about photographing mommas just with their babies. A motherhood session in Chattanooga with me (Soli Photography) is just the thing!
